Now You Can Make Home Made Hummus From The Dollar Store
If you told me a few years ago that dollar stores, particularly dollarama, would be selling tahini sauce, I’d be laughing!
I always thought that kind of stuff would be exclusive to grocery stores, not dollar stores.
Apparently they sell it now and I’m pretty happy and excited about it! Without tahini, I can’t make hummus. And hummus is good. It’s also the recipe I’m going to show you how to make today!
Hummus is super easy to make and it is SO GOOD. I will admit that I was skeptical using dollar store ingredients but I absolutely LOVED how my hummus turned out. The taste was just like (might I say a bit better) than my own lebanese relatives. Don’t tell!
Let’s get started!
Things you will need
Some ingredients that you will need are not available in dollar stores. Using ingredients from your own refrigerator and/or grocery store is fine.
I Can Chick peas
1/4 cup Tahini Sauce
1 Garlic Glove
1 Full Lemon Juice
Olive Oil
Salt and Pepper to taste
In a small bowl, rinse your chick peas under cold water removing any excess skin from the chick peas. Tip* Removing the skin from the chickpeas will result in a smoother textured hummus.
Add your chickpeas, tahini sauce, garlic glove, salt & pepper and lemon juice to food processor and process for 4-5 minutes.
While hummus is being processed, carefully pour in olive oil until the texture becomes smoother.
Once desired texture is achieved, remove hummus from food processor with spatula or spoon and pour into small to medium sized plate.
Using your spoon, create a swirled design in centre of hummus.
Pour in olive oil into your swirl design and fill in any other crevices with olive oil.
Garnish with chopped parsley or sesame seeds.
See? Most of the work is done in the food processor and all the making it look presentable things are for you to do!
I loved how my hummus turned out! And now it’s time for you to try this recipe out for yourself!
